1. What do you or are you tempted to bet on for your health, security, purpose and self esteem?

2. Do you agree that many of the things we bet on are actually a bluff? How?

3. What strikes you about the story of St Nicholas? How amazing is it that he was willing to suffer persecution and imprisonment for the sake of his faith in Jesus?

4. Read Luke chapter 1 verses 67 to 80 again, what strikes you from the song of Zechariah? How must he have been feeling when he spoke out these words?

5. What is Zechariah foreseeing in the life of Jesus that would impact us and the world?

6. When you reflect on the promise of Jesus and the light that he brought into the world, how do you feel?

7. How do you or how could you trust more in the promise of Jesus, revealed in the Christmas story, as a basis for staking your life on?
